 EPISODE 51

Kike's body was laying in my arms limp and lifeless, I laid her on the floor and discovered my hands were wet. 

I stared at the blood in my hands and became afraid for the first time, I turned Kike over and saw that blood was sipping out from the back of her head. All the rage I was feeling subsided immediately and I began to panic.

"Kike! Kike! Kike please open your eyes!" I pleaded.

The event of the entire day came to me in quick secession and I knew I have erred. "I should have found a way to kill her without having to go to jail" 

"I said break this door, Mr. Man!" I heard Baba Chidi shouting from outside. I heard the sound of someone chiseling at the door and I knew it is a matter of time before I get caught.

I quickly stood up in a panic and pocketed all the valuables in sight. I knew I had to act fast before they discover her body and call in the police.

"Kike! Kike! Kike! Stand up please, I was only playing with you" I screamed

"Wetin' I talk! He don kill am!" Baba Chidi shouted and kicked the door violently. 

The door suddenly went down and four people burst into the room. Baba Chidi, his wife, and one other couple living in our compound.

"Help me carry her! I don't know what happened. She suddenly started shouting and slumped" I cried.

"Chai! Chimoooo!!! You don finally kill this poor woman! Oya make una chop her dead body" Iya Chidi screamed.

"You are a wicked man Femi! God punish your entire generation! This woman dey alive you no allow am rest, now you don kill am abi?" Baba Chidi said facing me.

"Baba Chidi, I swear I no touch am, help me carry her make we go hospital. See am, she still dey breathe" I knew I had to make them believe me or I'll be dead. If they knew Kike is no longer breathing they'll mob me or call the police.

"This nah work of the devil o! Oga Femi is a nice and gentle man let's help him take her to the hospital" the second woman said.

"Thank you Mama Dare! God bless you, please help me hold her so that I can reverse my car. We have to quickly take her to the hospital" I said hurriedly. Before she could reply I removed Kike's head from my lap and dashed out.

Once I got to where my car was I got in, reversed, and quickly speed off before any of them will know what is going on.

I was on my way to the apartment the company gave to me, I prayed it should take them a while before they'll notice Kike is dead by then I'll be safely out of the state.

I dialed Cynthia's line and it ranged immediately. She picked at the third ring.

"Hello, who is this?" 

"What do you mean by who is this..." 

I tried dialing the line again but it was unreachable. 

I kept on trying it till I got to the lodge the company gave me by that time I was a bundle of nerves. I tried it again when I got to the lodge and it was still unreachable, I gave up and started pacing the room when a call came in, I checked and it happened to be an unknown number.

"What if it's the police?" I didn't pick up the call, it rang once again, and then silence. I picked up my phone and hid my number, I called the line back and it was picked up immediately.

"Hello!!! Who is this?" I heard again.

"Cynthia it is Femi," I said slowly.

"Femi! Where have you been?" She said tearfully.

"What happened to your line Babe?" I asked sulking. I have never been that glad to hear someone's voice like that in my life before. I felt relieved.

"I went to the toilet to ease myself and I mistakenly dropped my phone inside the WC. It is badly damaged" 

"My God! You should have called me from your friend's phone" 

"I can't...we had a minor accident on the way" her voice was shaking as she spoke.

"An accident? Hope it is not serious?" I asked in alarm.

"It is! Benita is in the hospital, I managed to escape unharmed. I'm presently at the hospital, can you come and pick me up?" I heard so much plea in her voice and I was sorry I had to disappoint her.

"I'm sorry, I can't come, there has been a problem. We got attacked by assassins on the way, Mama is dead"

"What! That can't be true, I refuse to believe you. I spoke to her this morning, and she promised to help me nurse my baby" She cried silently and I cursed Kike inwardly. I was almost glad she was dead.

"I know who did it, she's probably responsible for your accident too," I said with so much hatred in my voice.

"What are you doing about it? She shouldn't be allowed to go scot-free after killing Mama. I can't bear it!" She cried so loudly on the phone that I was afraid she'll do something to harm our baby.

"Find a taxi and come to our Lodge, something happened," I said cautiously. I knew I couldn't say much on the phone. 

"I'll book a taxi online and come over shortly," she said and ended the call.

I checked the time and it was 10:00 PM, I kept checking the time until it was 11:30 PM and I was yet to see Cynthia. I thought about going to the hospital to look for her when I remembered she didn't tell me the name of the hospital.

I almost gave up when I heard the sound of someone speaking to that gateman, and then I heard a knock on the door around a few minutes before 12.

She fell into my arms immediately, she looked at me all over and started sobbing.

"Thank God you are alive! Thank God you are alive!" She kept saying repeatedly. 

I was deeply moved, she had a near-death experience too but all she cared about was my welfare.

"I'm fine, let me look at you" 

"I was supposed to sit at the front sit, I wanted to sit there. I came down from my sit and went to ease myself at a filling station, we changed sit because my phone got damaged. It would have been me Femi, Benita is in a terrible condition".

"Kike is a devilish Person! I don't regret killing her" I said with so much venom.

"You did what!" Cynthia screamed.

"Kike is dead"

"Oh, my God! Oh, my God!" She said holding her head.

"It's not like that..."

"You killed somebody? You killed Kike" She said looking at me with fear in her eyes.

"I didn't actually kill her, it was an accident. We were talking, she attacked me and I was trying to defend myself. She hit her head on the wall and..."

"Did you check her? Did you confirm if she's truly dead?"

"She's lifeless and bleeding through her head, she hit her head on the wall..."

"No! I can't believe she's dead Femi, until I see her dead body with my two eyes"

"I saw the blood, it looked like she cracked her skull when she hit her head on the wall. She's dead Cynthia and everyone thinks I killed her, I'm sure she has been bad-mouthing me to our neighbors..."

"You don't know this woman Baby, she's dangerous" Cynthia started pacing the room and I saw the look of anxiety written all over her face.

"Why are you so sure she's not dead Cynthia? Is there something you are not telling me?" I saw her avoiding my eyes and I knew instantly that there was more to what she was telling me.

"Look at me Babe, this is Femi your husband. We promised to trust each other, you can tell me..."

"Fine! I'll tell you!" She said and sat down.

I sat beside her and listened to her intently, a part of me wanted to believe Kike is not dead so that I can escape going to prison.

"When we were preparing for our wedding Benita took me to a prophet for fortification. It was nothing diabolic Femi, it was just prayers..."

"I believe you dear" I cut in because I was already seeing the look of guilt on her face. I knew deep within me that Cynthia was nothing like Kike, Kike is the demon we are all running from.

"The prophet said she's a scary person; she cannot be killed or harmed by anyone unless God says it's her time to die. He also said she has a long life because she has a great assignment to perform on earth"

"He said all those things about kike?" I said in amazement.

"Yes dear, that's not all. He said she has two faces, the face of a dove and the face of a serpent; she can be kind and poisonous depending on her mood..."

"My God!" I started sweating immediately even though I knew the room is air-conditioned. "Why didn't you tell me all this Cynthia?"

"I was afraid you would cancel the wedding if you get to know, I didn't want to lose you, Baby. The prophet said if she decides to harm anyone only God can save the person, that's the reason I didn't want her to discover I was your mistress"

"What is all this nonsense? Are you sure the prophet is not fake?" I said bluffing. I didn't want to accept the implication of Kike being alive and ready for vengeance.

She shook her head slowly "I wished he was lying, I would have canceled the wedding myself when I heard all those things but I didn't want to lose you".

"My God! We are in trouble Cynthia. If Kike is alive we are finished! I'm sure she killed Mama and she was waiting for the right time to kill us too".

"What do we do Femi?" Cynthia said wringing her hands.

"Let's pray she's truly dead, going to prison is a small punishment compared to what she'll do to us if she's alive"
