I HAVE DRUNK STRANGE WATERS - Episode 5

EPISODE 5

“But I am just telling the truth, all Yorubas know is peppered stew and ewedu” she said looking disgusted and Caroline was looking bewildered.

“Don’t worry Caro, Can I call you Caro? I am not offended” I said still smiling, and then I turned towards Cynthia.

“There is really no need to defend her this way but I have to say this: She is the best cook in the world, she even knows how to cook igbo food, but I don’t love her for the food. She is a good woman that knows how to take care of her man” I said smiling. Someone passed carrying drinks and I took a cup.

“You made her sound like she is perfect, I really like that Sir. I am not trying to belittle your wife Sir, I was just testing your loyalty towards her, now all the girls here know that you are not available” She said and we all broke into laughter.

I sigh in relief, the girl almost put me in a spot but I was glad I defended my wife. We all scattered and enjoyed the party. All the staff was introduced to me and me to them a few hours later and I was on my way home. I bid everyone goodbye and stepped out of the hall to heading towards my car around 4:00PM in the evening.

“Can you drop me at the Junction?” I heard behind me and I turned back to see Cynthia.

Something told me to shake my head and keep going but I knew avoiding will be impossible because we are going to be working together, avoiding her will be weird.

“Sure, my car is packed over there” I said with a smile pointing at my official car.

“Thanks, you are a gentleman” she said returning my smile in appreciation.

She sat on the front seat beside me and breathe in the smell of expensive perfume when she settled.

“Your car smells nice”

“Thanks”

“So where are you heading to?” she said staring at me with a look I could not fathom.

“I live around Egbeda”

“That’s great! I stay around Ijegun so you can drop me at Egbeda junction”

I was quiet for a while trying to ponder if taking her to Egbeda junction was a wise thing to do.

“Unless you are not comfortable with it, I can always pick a bike at the junction”

“Ojota to Ijegun is pretty far, will you be going to work from there everyday” I asked looking puzzled.

“Of course No! That’s pretty far. I will be wasting transport fare every day if I do that. I have a friend I will be squatting with at Ojota, just need to pick some items from home” she said pleadingly.

“OK, I will drop you at Egbeda”

“Thanks Mr. Femi, I am so grateful” she said appreciatively.

“Don’t mention. We are going to work together starting from tomorrow, we should take care of each other” I said smiling.

“Hun Hun? that is spicy” she said with a funny look. I broke into laughter and the tense atmosphere was dispelled”

“So will you be driving to Ojota everyday Sir”

“Nope, the job came with accommodation”

“That’s great. Will your wife like Ojota after living in Egbeda? That environment has a way of growing on you. One of my friends lived in Egbeda for close to 8 years before she got married; she swore she can’t live anywhere else”

“I can’t really say if she will be moving in with me, she still has to go to work; the decision is hers to make”

I discovered Cynthia is the talkative type and I was beginning to get uncomfortable with her questions. I inserted a CD in the Disk player and increased the volume a little bit.

“This damn jacket is getting uncomfortable” I heard her say above the music and she took off her jacket. I turned to look at her and I got an eyeful of her cleavage. Cynthia was stunning and well endowed but I knew it will be in my best interest to avoid her.

I intentionally avoided looking at her till we got to Egbeda. I saw her bringing out her phone and she was pressing it when she noticed I was not interested in having further conversation with her.

We got to Egbeda and I parked the car at a safe distance. I got down from the car to open the door for her and I came face to face with my wife. She was coming back from work and chatting with one of our neighbors at the bus stop.

“Femi, you are back,” Kike said proudly, she moved towards me to hug me in front of our neighbor; I get she wanted to show off my car and new look.

“Please open the door I want to get down” Cynthia said from inside the car. That moment was a tough one for me, I regretted agreeing to drop her at Egbeda, and I wished she would just vanish into thin air.

I opened the door reluctantly, and she got out holding her jacket. Cynthia’s total package will make any woman develop an inferiority complex; she was curvy and spotless.
