I HAVE DRUNK STRANGE WATERS - Episode 20

EPISODE 20

“You better make good your promise or else there will be trouble” she said as she cat walked out of my office.

I felt like strangling her but the thought of going to jail held me back.

I wasn’t comfortably throughout my stay in the office that day; it’s not every day that you get threatened and blackmailed the same day. I left work around 4:00PM after making sure everything is in place; I had instructed my secretary to prepare a promotion letter addressed to Miss Cynthia.

I branched at a nearby foodstuff store and bought some food items, I also branched at a provision store to buy beverages and health drink for Mama before heading to her house that evening.

I had schooled myself to remain calm and unaffected no matter how much Mama provoked me; I knew it wasn’t possible for her to like my wife but I don’t want her to hate her.

I got to her shop around 7:00PM in the evening and parked my car at the front of her shop, I was about to get out of the car when she jumped out of her shop and came to meet me.

“Iya Bimpe my son has arrived o!” She shouted and came to hug me. She didn’t leave me until she is, sure enough neighbors have gathered around us.

“Femi my precious son, how are you doing oko mi?” she said smiling happily.

I was surprised at her action and decided to play along. I prostrated on the ground with my suit publicly. “Mama I am sorry, I have come to apologize…”

“What did you do? How can my precious son offend me? You this fortunate child let's go in so that we can talk” she said happily.

I responded to greetings from her friends and neighbors that gathered and opened my booth to bring out things I bought for her.

“Ehn? My son, is this not too much? You shouldn’t have gone through so much trouble for my sake,” she shouted and burst into tears suddenly

“Mama don’t cry, Ounje Omo ni,” Iya Bimpe said as she tried to console my mother.

“Iya Bimpe you can’t understand. I have really suffered to bring up my children, I wish his father is here to witness his success” She said as she called her sales girl to carry what I brought inside.

All her neighbors started leaving one after the other and only Iya Bimpe remained.

“How are you doing Femi? And how is my beautiful wife doing?” she said cheerfully.

“Thank you ma, we are all doing fine,” I said. I looked at Mama and I saw the look of anger that crossed her face at the mention of my wife, I quickly dipped my hand inside my pocket and gave Iya Bimpe two thousand and she left.

“Foolish woman, alatenuje! I know she is not happy with my success, she's only after what you will give her” my mother murmured as we entered her shop.

Her shop looked more spacious and I noticed she added an extension and renovated the place “Your shop is looking fine Mama” I commented with smiles.

“My son, it is Lapo money o! I am trading with microfinance money and the whole thing is choking me, I just thank God that you have gotten a job now and you will start taking care of me” as she sat on a bench and gave me a plastic chair to sit on.

“You go and stay outside,  I want to discuss with my son” she said to her sales girl and I saw as she walked out to wait outside.

“Mama, I am sorry for the way I spoke to you last time” I said looking sorry.

“Don’t worry my son, I know it is not you; it is that witch you married. God will expose her one day” she said calmly.

I wanted to defend Kike, but I remembered my resolve to be calm “Mama, whatever happened just accept that I am the one doing it” I said and prostrated the second time.

“Femi stand up, I know my own son. I know what you can do and what you cannot do, my prayer is that God will expose the devil” she said calmly and I stood up and sat down.

“Mama, you said you have something to discuss with me,” I said slowly.

“Yes my son, one does not leave fire on his roof and go to sleep; it is a critical matter.”

“I am with you Mama, I am all ears” I replied

“I was in my shop a week ago when one man branched into my shop. I thought he wanted to buy something, but he said he didn’t come to buy anything, God sent him to deliver a message to me.”

“A message?” I asked in surprise.

“Yes my son, he said my son is on the path of destruction and needs to be cautioned. You know you are the only son I have, I am sure the message is for you”

I burst into laughter “Mama, are you sure it is not those prophets that go around scamming people?”

“No o! He didn’t ask me for anything. He just said my son is in bondage and God has sent an angel to set him free but he is sending her away” she said calmly.

“Mama, I can assure you that I am not in any form of bondage”

“Femi, don’t be stubborn! Man of God cannot lie, he said you just met your God-ordained wife and she is pregnant for you”

I began to sweat profusely immediately I heard Mama’s word and she noticed that I have become uncomfortable suddenly.

“What else did he tell you,” I asked when I found my voice.

“He said you are about to commit abortion, he said if you try it the girl will die and you will die wretched. He said the girl is your ordained wife, if you send her away you have missed your chance of making it in life”

“Where is this prophet from?”

“I don’t know; I have never met him before. God just sent him to deliver a message to us”
