I HAVE DRUNK STRANGE WATERS - Episode 34

 EPISODE 34

“I am at home; she is on her way home too”

“I am coming, I will pick a bike now and meet you there,” she said and disconnected the call.

Kike walked in about 20 minutes later with fear written all over her face.

“What is happening? Why did you speak like that on the phone?”

I looked at her and at that moment I realized that I never truly loved Kike, maybe I made her the center of my world because she was always there “Our love is a lie, we spent all those years together for nothing”

“Femi, say something! You are scaring me” she said pleadingly.

“Go inside and check what is there,” I said calmly and watched as she walked in slowly.

I prayed that moment that what I saw was not Kike’s handwork; if she had said someone planted it there maybe I would have believed her. I waited for her to come out; when ten minutes passed and she was still there I went in to check what was happening.

She sat on the floor staring at the open calabash; the expression on her face was that of weariness and something that looked like regret.

“Did you do it?” I asked slowly.

“How did you find it?” she said transferring her gaze from the calabash to my face.

“That is not important, did you do this Kike?”

“Femi, I can explain…”

“Answer my question! Did you or did you not put this in your wardrobe?” I shouted and watched as tears made their way down her cheek.

“Yes”

My whole world came crashing down with that singular word. I wished I could rewind time, I wished I could go back to eleven years ago when I met the innocent Kike crying on the road.

“Why Kike? Why did you do this to me?” I shouted angrily.

“It’s not what you think Femi. I swear with my life, I don’t mean to hurt you” she said weeping profusely.

“Open it!” I screamed

She knelt hurriedly and opened the calabash, I stared at the content again and it fueled my anger.

“Where did you get this from? I thought you are from a Christian home and raised the Christian way”

“Femi, I am sorry. I can’t tell you where I got this from but I assure you that it is not to harm you” she said amidst sobs.

“You call yourself a Christian, you even mocked me several times for not being a deep believer, yet you have been doing this to tie me down all these years?” I said as I kicked the calabash angrily.

I noticed that the two images shifted, and for the first time, I saw the paper placed under it. I bent down to examine the paper and I saw that there were two names written on it.

“Femi and Eric” I read the name aloud and faced her with disbelief was written all over my face.

“You are having an affair,” I said looking stunned.

She shook her head vehemently “No, it’s not what you think”

“Who is Eric? You have two men tied down in your life Kike? And I thought things cannot get worse” I said laughing hysterically.

“I can explain Femi…”

“You better start explaining, you whore!”

“Eric is not my man friend, I have not met him before…”

“You liar! Here am I thinking you are the most innocent woman I have ever met, looks can be deceiving” I said mockingly.

I heard a loud knock on the door suddenly “That must be Mama” I said as I headed out to open the door.

Kike grabbed my legs and held on “You called Mama? Please Femi, pity me. I promise to tell you everything in due time” she said crying loudly.

“Don’t touch me with that your occultic hand, you are a fraud and a witch” I said pushing her away roughly.

I went to open the door and Mama stormed in.

“Where is she? Where is that witch?” she said angrily.

“She is inside. She did it Mama; I have been under the influence of a charm all my life”

“Ye! Moku O!” Mama said and stormed inside. I followed behind trying to catch up with her, she already pounced on Kike before I could stop her.

“You will kill me today you witch!” she shouted and began to slap her repeatedly.

“Mama, please leave her,” I said as I tried to separate them.

“And I warned you Femi, I warned you not to marry this old witch but you won’t listen,” she said crying as I held on to her.

“I am sorry Mama; I didn’t do anything to harm your son”

“You are still talking rubbish!” Mama shouted. She freed herself from my grip and pounce on Kike again.

It took me some time to separate them, and by the time I did Kike’s face was already red all over with bruises created by Mama’s sharp fingers.

“Let me finish this witch Femi! No wonder my son’s life has been meaningless all these while, so you are the one behind it” Mama screamed.

“I didn’t do anything to him. I did everything for him, please believe me” Kike said sobbing uncontrollably.

“The man of God already exposed you; he told us God will reveal your true colour soon. Who gave you witchcraft? Is it your unfortunate mother?” Mama said breathing heavily.

Kike shook her head sadly “My mother does not know anything about this, please keep her out of this”

“Both of you collaborated to finish my son abi? When I finish with you I will go and kill your unfortunate mother” Mama shouted angrily.

Mama brought out her phone angrily and dialed a number I suspected to be that of Kike’s mother.

“Hello, come and take your unfortunate daughter out of my son’s house before I kill her” Mama screamed. The phone went off immediately and she stared at it in rage.

“That madwoman disconnected my call, it is me and her today,” Mama said as she started dialing the number again.

My phone rang immediately, I checked the caller and it was my mother-in-law.

“Hello Femi,” she said calmly.

“Hello, Mummy,” I said quickly. I have come to respect Kike’s mother a lot during the time I married her daughter, she never intruded in our home and she was quick to render financial assistance when we are in debt.

“What happened to my daughter?”

“Mummy, you can’t imagine what Kike did? I saw a charm in her wardrobe”

“Whatever happened, wait for me to arrive with her father tomorrow. Tell your mother I said I will make sure I imprison anyone that dare lay hands on my daughter” she said and disconnected the call.

“What did that crazy woman tell you?” Mama shouted.
