I HAVE DRUNK STRANGE WATERS - EPISODE 39

2

 EPISODE 39

“It’s my money and I can do whatever I want with it,” I said and stood up angrily.

“I am coming back for you Kike; first I have to deal with Bambi”

It was the most frustrating week of my life, I keep expecting Kike to catch us red-handed or something drastic to happen that will lead to the cancellation of my wedding with Cynthia.

Kike would have noticed my anxiety but she was preoccupied with dreaming about moving to the house I rented in Lekki the following week. Like seriously, I didn’t pity her because I have no iota of love for her again. I kept spending endlessly on Cynthia and our upcoming wedding.

I couldn’t take the pressure again on Tuesday, my wedding with Cynthia is just 4 days away and I don’t have a plan yet. I know I need a foolproof plan that will take me out of the house on Friday and bring me back on Monday, by then I will be safely married to Cynthia and we can move to our new house in Lekki. Kike can bring down heaven but it will be too late for me, that is the best punishment for what she has done.

I picked up my phone and called Mama that Tuesday.

“Hello Mama”

“Hello Femi Oko mi, the groom himself! That Saturday is going to be super; our enemies will die of shame”

“Mama, this is not time to rejoice, there is trouble” I snapped.

“What trouble Oko mi? It is your enemies that will have troubles” Mama replied confidently.

“Have you ever thought about how I will leave the house on Friday without Kike getting suspicious? Do you have a plan?”

“Is that why you are behaving like this Femi? What can that witch do?  Forget about her! It’s a very easy thing”

“Mama! I have been having nightmares these days. What if Kike catches us red-handed? She will kill both of us” I said shivering.

“I said forget about that unfortunate girl! Don’t worry, just call me when you get home tonight and the rest will be history. I have a plan already, don’t worry”

“What plan are you talking about?” I asked suspiciously. What if Mama does something to put us in trouble? Kike is like a dozing python waiting to strike.

“I am your mother; I gave birth to you so I am wiser than you. Just trust me with this and forget about panicking” Mama said before disconnecting the call but it was of little assurance to me.

I went home that night still bothered, Cynthia is on a week's leave and she is in Calabar already preparing for the occasion, I gave her more than what was needed with the promise to join her on Friday. She was to prepare a hotel for my arrival. I planned to lodge my family and friends in the same hotel.

I bought snacks and drinks from a roadside fast food before getting home because I was scared of Kike doing something to me before d-day. I was watching the TV when Mama’s call came in. It rang thrice but I refused to pick it up.

“Why are you not picking up your calls dear?” Kike asked looking concerned.

“Just leave it! It's Mama” I said feeling uncomfortable.

“Why are you avoiding her calls? Pick her calls  I don’t want trouble” Kike said looking troubled.

The phone stopped ringing after some minutes, just when I thought Mama had given up Kike’s phone rang too.

“It's Mama,” she said looking concerned.

“Ignore it!” I said but she had picked it up before I could finish speaking.

“Good evening Mama” I heard her say on the phone. Their conversation lasted for so long that I started sweating. Kike was apologizing every minute and I couldn’t hear what Mama was saying at the other end.

She dropped the call and looked at me accusingly “How can you do that Femi? I knew you have done something the moment you refused to pick up her calls”

“What do you mean?” I said already shaking inside.

“Mama reported you to me, how can you treat her that way?” she said again looking angry.

“What did she tell you?”

“She asked you to take her to your cousin’s wedding this weekend and you refused, you even told her your car is not public transport”

“What!” I quickly grabbed what Mama was trying to do and I played along “Too much sense will not kill you Maami”

“She wants me to take her to Ekiti on Friday and bring her back on Sunday, who does that? Besides, I am busy at the office. Don’t bother yourself, I already told her I can’t take her there”

Before I knew what was happening Kike was on her knees before me “Please Femi don’t do this. I know she is still angry with me because of what happened the other day, let’s use this to pacify her. Just take a day's leave at your workplace and take her there”

After much pleas and persuasions from Kike I agreed to take Mama to my cousins' wedding at Ekiti that was how we sealed the deal that weekend. I was happy I can now attend my wedding without any hassle. Kike even helped me prepare for the occasion out of gratitude that I agreed to go.
