IN A STRANGE LAND

SERVING GOD IN A STRANGE LAND

Psalms 137:1-4
[1]By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion.
[2]We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof.
[3]For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song; and they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion.
[4]How shall we sing the LORD'S song in a strange land?

This is one of the scripture that every becoming Saint should find time to examine.
Serving God in a Strange Land!

From the passage we could see the beloved, the loved, the anointed, the chosen people of God sold out into exile.

The people of God by a means or the other found themselves in a strange land. Not only that, but a land where they are denied of comfort, fellowship with God, full of hardship and suffering.

Do you know why they wept in verse one?
Not because of the hardship, or because of food but because they remembered ZION.

What is ZION?

This is their promise land. The land of all comfort, the center of God's grace for His people, the place of abundance and above all the place of fellowship with God.
They wouldn't have understood the benefits in Zion not until they were sent into exile in a strange land, then they realized God's grace.
At this point of realization, they laid down their instruments and wept aloud.

I don't know what is making you cry this day but I know there is help for you today and always.

In Verse 4:
As if the pains were not enough, the heathen asked them to sing their favorite worship song as a sign of mockery.

In the above verse, their weeping was intensified.

How shall we sing the Lord's song in a strange land?

Now, let's come to this conclusion. Strange land is not until you and I are taken as slaves to foreign land. Our own strange land is that test, trial, challenge, and the present or coming time that we will feel as if we are denied of God's presence and comfort. That time it seems God is far from us, as he doesn't exit.

Even Christ said, "Father why art thou forsaken me"
That's that voice of a man experiencing pains in a strange land

How do we serve God is this strange land?

When tears are rolling down your face like a baby, when nothing is working at all, when it seems there is no help from anywhere, when the once anointed man / woman is being terrified with trials. How do we serve Him?
There is hope!
Look at the trial and the challenge and proclaim:

1 Peter 1:6-7
Firstly, God knows you are in pains, he knows things are not what it used to be. Even your relationship with him is greatly affected
But let's see what His word says :
1 Peter 1:6-7
[6]Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:
[7]That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
Bible says we should rejoice in time like this, instead of cry and weeping.

How can my trial be precious more than gold ?

So, our trials are greatly precious than gold because it is the trial of our faith in Christ.
It means God is involved in the trial and challenges.

Hallelujah!

Therefore, let your heart be settled that your affliction is but just for a moment and the suffering of this time can't be compare to the glory that will be revealed in you, because your trial is more precious than gold.

God said the youth should overlook the present situation of the nation and change their heart towards Him. Because He said He is involved.

Continue in your service with Him and see the tremendous turnaround.

Understand that your sincere service to Him in a time like this (strange land) is more rewardable than when you were in your Zion (comfort zone).
Worship Him day and night with faith, knowing that He is involved.
No promotion in the kingdom without a trial passed!

Finally my people, God sees us all and He alone knows our pains and how much we have wept in secret due to this present time. Therefore let us continue to trust in Him.
Remain blessed!
