LOOSING SALVATION IS A ONE-TIME THING
Do you think sometimes, that probably you might not make it to heaven?
Or do you feel maybe if the Trumpet sounds anytime there are chances of you being left behind?
Therefore, thoughts arises in your mind continuously.
Well, let's study today's text in depth together.
Today we shall be looking at how secured we are IN Christ Jesus.
Romans 8:28-39 NIV
[28] And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
[29] For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.
[30] And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.
[31] What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
[32] He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all---how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? [33] Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies.
[34] Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died---more than that, who was raised to life---is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.
[35] Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?
[36] As it is written: “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”
[37] No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
[38] For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, [39] neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Paul in today's text was in powerful auto run mode.
The flow of his writings here have to be put in context else we arrive at the grace once saved always saved irrespective of how I live my life.
Romans 8:38 KJV
For I am persuaded, that neither death...
Here is context I want us to all look at.
Paul said he is confident. He has great assurance that nothing can pluck him out of being in Christ.
So if nothing can actually do so, it means once I am saved then that's it.
Once I have entered Christ then how I live shouldn't matter. For nothing can reverse this decision. It's called grace.
But is this so?
John 12:25 KJV
He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.
Hmmmmm... Jesus here is saying you can lose it...
So is Paul contradictory to Jesus?
The doctrine of “once saved, always saved” teaches that it is not possible for a child of God to sin in such a way that he will be lost.
Do you believe once a Christian is saved, such a Christian is saved forever?
The name of our church carries Grace. So nobody can tell me I don’t believe in grace.
But the grace of the bible we are talking about believes in holiness, purity and sanctification. I believe that without holiness no one man will see God.
I believe the need to perfect holiness is the fear of the Lord. Grace, in itself, is a scriptural message. But we are beginning to see extreme imbalance of grace teaching.
So what would you tell extreme grace preachers?
My message to them is I want you to pull back a little bit and search your conscience. Ask yourself ‘why am I preaching this’? ‘Why won’t I listen and subject this teaching to other people who are very mature in faith’?
Jesus said, broad is the way that lead to destruction and many are going there. But then narrow is the road that leads to life and very few are going there. Genuine Christianity is not as popular as we’ve made it to look.
I believe that you are not saved by ANYTHING you do, but by what Jesus did on the cross at Calvary. And at the exact moment of your salvation, Paul tells us in Ephesians that you are SEALED in by the Holy Spirit. Because of these things, a Church Age Christian can NEVER lose their salvation.
Paul in Romans 8 gives us a detailed list of everything and anything that might knock a believer out of the game, and finishes by saying that NONE of these things is sufficient to cause a born again child of God to lose their salvation. For some curious reason, many Christians in our day despise this precious doctrine of ETERNAL SECURITY, but don't let them steal it from you.
But looking at the word "Saved", it's sounding like its sealed already.
So if I come to Christ and I am saved, isn't that Salvation Sealed?
So why talk of loosing it?
If your dad left you an inheritance and put in his will that this is yours. Can that inheritance be given to someone else?
And when it is given to you, can it be taken away after transfer of ownership?
I am just trying to open our minds both ways.
How about we start from John 3:16
John 3:16 KJV
For God so loved the world, that he gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him "should not perish", but have everlasting life.
John 3:16 NIV
For God so loved the world that he gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in him "shall not perish" but have eternal life.
I laid emphasis on tenses here for a reason...
Also remember we are saved by hope.
The return of Jesus is when things are completed.
Faith is a journey from the moment you confess Jesus till He returns.
Romans 8:24-25 KJV
For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? [25] But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.
So that's why I said we need to understand what saved means...
Because you sinned doesn't mean you have lost your salvation.
It means you could loose it.
The Holy Spirit is the guarantee of this Eternal Salvation.
But this salvation is only given once in terms of hope fulfilled.
So at the end of your race you receive the Salvation that is sealed by the Holy Spirit. But the truth is that as the end of the race some will loose it.
But for now you are saved in hope of that you will get it.
My point is currently you don't even have this salvation albeit by faith because you are saved by hope.
That's why rapture is a process and I don't know if you read the discussion on the ten virgins.
The term loosing or receiving salvation is at the end of the race.
While you run a race you have a goal in front of you right?
So as you run you have not received it yet but there is an assurance sealed by the Holy Spirit that when you get there you will receive it.
Now there are rules to run by....
1 Corinthians 9:26-27 KJV
I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: [27] But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.
Salvation is not granted yet albeit by faith you have it.
The last enemy is death. And until when this enemy is defeated is when you have salvation given to you in real sense and it's no longer a substance of things hope for.
But for now you are saved by hope through faith and sealed with the Holy Spirit.
If you could take the effort to read the ten virgins, you will discover that a seal, once broken, the agreement is off.
Ephesians 4:30 KJV
And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
Paul is saying Salvation is granted by this seal. And if you see a product with the seal broken will you buy it? So, if the seal is broken then Salvation is lost.
Loosing salvation is a one-time thing.
No matter how you sin here, as long as you repent and straighten your life, then it's good. That's why the Christian life is that of repentance by faith. Because we all sin everyday. It's the reality.
But you grieve the Holy Spirit when you continue to wallow in sin and non repentant. Hence, the seal is tampered with. Hence Rapture cannot occur.
But we cannot continue in sin that grace may abound though. It's a dangerous thing.
The biggest problem Pentecostals have created is vague understanding of what it is to be saved.
This we need to straighten.
Many people I have found don't even understand John 3:16
Yes! You are correct that Peter didn't fall here and I agree with you. But if Peter doesn't walk by faith which is living a holy life, he griefs the Holy Spirit.
And on that day that Peter is meant to receive Salvation which is swallowing up of death, which is as a result of the disobedience in Eden, Peter would loose that salvation because he has grieved the Holy Spirit.
Pentecostal is not a denomination.
I have not mentioned denominations. It's a movement. I belong to the Pentecostal movement so it's not about who belongs there or not.
Some things need to be ironed out.
So when we talk about saved, eternal salvation, salvation story... We all need to understand the concept of faith, hope and love in relation.
The ten virgins were all saved by faith. They had hope of the return of Master.
They're all Spirit filled tongue speaking...
But only five of them got the Salvation eventually...
Why?
Because the remaining five have the seal broken.
Movement is the main thing. Peter and Paul started a movement not a denomination.
It was later people started denominations and hence we are confused today.
It's same for the parable of talents and other parables of Jesus.
So like I said earlier, being saved is in context of faith, hope and love.
You are saved by hope through faith of a loving God who has sealed you.
And this seal must not be grieved or broken
Everyone of Jesus parables gel with this 100%
2 Corinthians 1:22 KJV
Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.
2 Corinthians 1:22 NIV
set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.
I would rather we hear the scriptures and not me. I cannot be clear at all.
So we ask what is to come if I have gotten it already? That's why Paul we are saved by hope
Romans 8:24-25 KJV
For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? [25] But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.
Redemption is the key word here.
This is the salvation from eternal death.
So effectively currently now you are redeemed by faith through hope.
The redemption is sealed as a guarantee by the Holy Spirit.
Rapture is done by the deposit or seal called the Holy ghost to swallow up death in victory which is the redemptive salvation we have received by faith.
But to get to that redemption, we need victory over sin.
We all have this victory currently by the Blood of Jesus.
And it's our job to exercise the victory. When you do not, you are not honoring the seal and hence you loose the redemptive salvation.
That's why I said above that John 3:16 is the least understood of all the scriptures.
Paul's teachings can easily be taken out of context.
Even after Paul was dead, James had to write to people that it's faith and works because people saw Paul preaching as faith only.
But a deeper look into Paul's teachings says Faith and works.
1. He receives salvation by hope through faith. He is receiving by faith. And faith with hope means he hasn't gotten yet.
2. He receives salvation at that point but by faith
Romans 8:24-25 KJV
For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? [25] But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.
3. It means to believe in the atoning blood of Jesus with the hope of redemption by faith.
4. It means his inner man is new and affected by the Holy Ghost immediately.
5. Eternal life is the knowledge of God.
Satan made them eat a fruit of knowledge of good and evil which led to eternal death. So eternal life is the knowledge of God.
6. The believer receives eternal life because it's the knowledge of God.
This knowledge is the Holy Ghost.
Albeit this knowledge needs activation at rapture.
if you noticed this line "at rapture"
It's the main understanding we all need to have.
The Eternal life is present in you and I when we believe in Jesus.
But it is required to be triggered at the time of rapture.
Return of Jesus is so so important...
If Jesus doesn't return, we are still in waiting state of hope.
So His return triggers the eternal life in us to bring about rapture which is the redemptive process that swallows death in victory.
Death is not yet swallowed up.
1 Corinthians 15:26 KJV
The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.
But sin and law have been defeated. This defeat has given us eternal life which is the deposit that triggers the redemptive process over death the last enemy.
Mind you this is not a physical death but an eternal death. The believer while alive do not loose the Holy Spirit.
Its impossible...
But...
The believer can sideline or marginalize the Holy Spirit and this is what Paul refers to as grieving the Holy Spirit.
If this is the case then Salvation is lost at the point of rapture.
And this explains what happened to the five foolish virgins.
The Holy Spirit is here to abide till Jesus comes...
He ain't going no where but can remain dormant if not allowed to work.
No Christian loses the Holy Spirit because of sin...
The only thing that might be very dangerous is to renounce Jesus.
Hmmmm...
Let's say you convert to another religion. This is fornication.
But still the Holy Spirit doesn't depart because the gift and calling of God are without repentance.
But like I said it is dangerous. I don't want to dive into this mystery for now.
John 10:27-29 KJV
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: [28] And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. [29] My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.
No one can pluck you out of Jesus.
But what of YOU?
You can damn pluck yourself out you know... it's a choice.
Not one single thing I've said is contradictory, we only see it like that because we not reading with context.
And I'm still coming to the 10 things Paul said cannot separate us.
He didn't mention YOU there😂
So that's why James wrote his letter because of this kind of thing.
And it looked like Paul and James were contradictory, but they are not.
I have read their letters intently by the Spirit. This things are difficult to explain and that's why we see wrong teachings here and there. Men just apply their PHd degrees to them.🤪
It has nothing to do with theology and that's why Paul and what he writes is fully based on Revelation.
Paul didn't seat under Jesus teachings nor did he read the 4 gospels, they were written after he had died.
But his teaching on salvation and resurrection matches with the gospels and Revelation 100%
Romans 8:38-39 KJV
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, [39] Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
There is no witch, demon, calamity or anything that can pluck you out Jesus.
So let's compare to Jesus' teaching...
John 10:28 KJV
And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
Isn't that a 100% match with Paul? Yes it is and yet Paul didn't read the gospel of John to write this.
He got this by Revelation of the Spirit.
He says, I am fully convinced... And he starts to list militating factors but didn't include YOU.
Jesus paid for this Salvation with His dear life and precious blood.
But it's up to you and I to be wise virgins.
✓ Have a vessel for extra oil
✓ Watch your oil level
If the engine is not oiled enough, it will break down.
The preachers of once saved always saved are extreme. However they have subtle point which they have put in a wrong way.
Salvation can be lost but not in the sense of while you're still alive. Because what you have by hope you have not received it yet. It is futuristic, albeit you have it by faith as if it is present.
At the return of Jesus, hope is fulfilled and faith has no job again, then that which is perfect, "Love", kicks in Eternally.
At this point of Jesus return is when we can say Salvation is lost for those who have not walked in Holiness.
And all Jesus parables show this teaching 100%.
So if you commit fornication today, it doesn't mean your salvation is lost. But you are in the danger of loosing it because you grieve the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is always there to help in repentance mode. When we "willfully" shun the Holy Spirit's help, then that's grieving. It means we have taken grace for granted and think we can continue to sin. The grace will cease one day and Salvation will be eventually lost.
But when you repent and willing to change, the Spirit is happy to walk with you and make sure you overcome that sin.
But we all have different levels of Grace and that's why Paul said it's not wise to compare ourselves.
So therefore, live a Holy life and don't say, but brother David lied yesterday and he didn't loose his salvation so I will lie today. You might not have the same level of grace as that brother David does.
And also, Brother David too needs to repent though.
