THE REJECTION - EPISODE 1

EPISODE 1

It was twelve full moons ago. I was feeble and dispirited. My life was full of misery and shedding tears was now habitual as far as my life was concerned.

At the age of twelve, I had a dad whose name was Ojukwu. He was a businessman who wasn't financially stable but he was providing the basic needs for his family.

My mother, Ego was a trader, who deals with the buying and selling of foodstuffs. She was forty-five years while my dad was fifty-two.

Then, I was in SS1. I was being treated like a slave when I turned nine. Having a flashback of when I was six years old, I was handled and praised as a queen.

I was pampered and ate much quantity of food I wanted. But when I turned nine, my parents started maltreating me as though they weren't my biological parents.

My parents were always fighting and I couldn't just rest at home. They always blame me for their ruckus and affray.

I doubted countlessly that they were those that birthed me but seeing those blurred pictures of when Ego my mom was pregnant and when I was born, kept me in a state of higgledy-piggledy.

In school, I would always be sadly happy. I wasn't social because I was restricted from playing with my peers in my childhood.

Friends wouldn't laugh at jokes, I would always be blue in the face and my classmates would always tear a strip off me if I give the rough edge of her tongue because I had no good sense of humor – My sense of humor was utterly déad.

My Ideas were always termed as harebrained.

Luckily, a young girl named Anna was admitted to my school in the second year of SS1. She had a pale face with thick eyebrows.

She caused pandemonium in our class when she was introduced.

I was elated when she befriended me a few days after her introduction. We became attracted to each other and spent our time conversing.

One day, Anna was thirsty after school, I asked her to come and quench her throat at my house because it wasn't far from our school.

She concurred and we went to our house. Unfortunately, we saw my dad. He started slandering me immediately. I was down in the mouth and tear-stained the white shirt I was wearing.

"Your friend is bed-wetting as old as she is," he said pointing fingers scornfully at me "come let me show you"

He held Anna in her hand and they went inside the house.

Shortly, Anna came out and started giggling.

Her giggles sounded like that of mockery.

Forthwith, she left without saying goodbye.

"Daddy why?" I asked him with my eyes swollen.

"You just have two years and I will marry you off to a rich man" he replied.

My heart missed a bit and I stood at a spot staring at him but he saw me and pushed me inside.

When my mother came back from the market in the evening, I told her what happened but she supported my dad and flôgged me for telling her.

I couldn't hold my tears as they dribbled down my cheeks.

The next day, I didn't want to go to school because I was abashed of myself but my dad took me by himself to school.

I walked sluggishly to the class and everyone was looking at me as though I was smelling and nauseating.

They all kept four meters away from me.

Anna couldn't even look me in the face.

My heart was in my mouth and I cried heartily.
