I HAVE DRUNK STRANGE WATERS - Episode 4

 EPISODE 4

I was driving the official car wearing an expensive suit to the opening ceremony of the filling station a few days later. Kike had gone to all her friends and family to borrow money, the song she was singing to their ears was “My husband is now a bank manager; we will pay your money with interest at the end of the month”

She bought 4 complete suits made of quality materials and some shirts with the money, she also bought 3 pair of expensive suits, new body cream, aftershave and other expensive things for me to look like a rich man. “You cannot be driving a car worth 5 million naira looking like 5000” she told me when I was complaining that those things were too much.

In few days, I was looking as if I had been rich all my life. She never even bought a handkerchief for herself with the money and it made me feel guilty: I felt it was my turn to take care of her not the other way round.

The opening ceremony was held in a nearby hotel hall; I drove into the premises few minutes past 10:00AM and parked my car at a good spot inside the hotel.

“Mr Femi you are welcome, we have been waiting for you” the new supervisor said bowing respectively. I almost looked back to check the Mr. Femi he was referring to.

“Thanks Mr…”

“Mr Chris Sir, I am the Supervisor”

We entered the hall together and I saw that a mini get-together was going on.

“Let me introduce you to other newly employed staff, I came here early so I already met most of them”

He approached three girls chatting together at one corner of the hall I followed him gallantly. I was careful to puff my chest a little to look like the boss, I had used the expensive perfume Kike bought so I was sure I was looking and smelling good.

“Girls this is Mr. Femi, he is our manager”

The three ladies gave me their full attention and I noticed that they were beauties. One was dark to perfection and petite, one was of average height and fair but the third one…

“This is Bisi” Mr. Chris said with his hands stretched towards the petite girl.

“Nice meeting you Sir, please take care of us” Bisi said with a smile.

“Bisi has National Diploma in communications, this is Caroline” he said pointing to the fair lady of average height.

“Our Oga is handsome” Caroline said blushing and I laughed.

“Of course I am, my wife is doing a good job of taking care of me.

“You are married?” the third girl blurted out before she could control herself.

“Of course, I am happily married to the best woman in the world” I said and looked at her well. My heart skipped a bit immediately I saw her well, she wasn’t beautiful; she was stunning.

 

“This is Cynthia, she is a microbiologist. She is one of the gifts from heaven that God gave to us” Mr. Chris said smiling.

I tried not to stare as I nodded my head in greeting “Who is this white-skinned and gorgeous Oyinbo?”

“They are the 3 female attendants we have, our male attendants are over there having a chat” Mr. Chris said smiling.

“You are a fuel attendant?” I said to Cynthia, I am sure she could see the look of surprise on my face.

“Naija is not that good Sir, Na hustle bring me here o!” she said smiling “Girls go chop nau, at all at all na him bad,” she said in pidgin.

“You are very young, I was expecting someone older” Bisi said laughing.

“I am not that young, my wife is responsible for my young look” I said jokingly.

“I bet she is feeding you with all those Orisirisi” Bisi said smiling and I discovered that I really liked her jovial character.

“Your wife is Yoruba?” Cynthia asked with a funny look on her face.

“Of course, she is a typical cultured Yoruba lady” I said proudly.

“I bet all she feeds you with is peppered stew, you have got to marry an Igbo lady to get good delicacies” Cynthia said laughing.

“Cynthia! That is rude!” Caroline said looking shocked. “I apologize for her rude behavior sir” she said pleadingly.
