I HAVE DRUNK STRANGE WATERS - Episode 31

 

EPISODE 31

“Yes,” I said looking desperate.

“Even if it means putting the future of your wife at risk?”

"What do you mean by that accountant?" I asked looking perplexed.

"I have been working as an accountant for close to 8 years, I got this job through someone that knew our boss in the US. I helped my former manager to make millions in my former place of work; in fact, he built his own house in 3 months" he said smiling.

"Please help me too, What do you need me to do and where do I start? It is just the way you mentioned my wife that got me scared"

"What you want me to do is dangerous if our boss finds out. You have to travel out of the country leaving your possession behind. If you ever got caught I will be thrown in jail with you"

"I am not a child, don't worry, I will make sure I don't get caught," I said trying to reassure him.

"Your wife is your next of kin if you take my advice and you get caught your wife will be thrown into jail when you are out of the country," he said staring at me with an intense look.

"As I said, I don't have any intention of being caught, and if I get caught I have no property to leave behind when fleeing. My wife can always take care of herself. I felt guilty immediately after I said the word but I knew that is the truth; Kike is a survivor.

 "OK, there is a plan to add a supermarket and fast food to this company we can make lots of money from that. We can also adjust the meter, I know a professional that can do that. We will keep buying lesser fuel every month"

"You don't know how grateful I am..."

"Don't be grateful yet Mr. Femi, you have not heard my conditions" he said smiling.

"What are your conditions?" I asked feeling apprehensive.

"40% of any money that comes in for you and a vow of secrecy. You must never mention my name if you get caught"

"I am giving you 30% since I am bearing the greater risk"

We concluded and I signed some documents he brought, he said they are for security purposes. We shook hands several minutes later and he left.

When he left I thought about everything deeply and concluded that it is destiny". If I miss this chance I may never get another one, what has keeping my integrity done for me anyway?"

I remembered my suffering in the past with Kike, how we had to borrow to even eat".You have come a long way Femi if you don't take this risk you may never be rich in your life again".

A call interrupted my thought and I picked it up immediately "Hello"

"Hello Mr. Femi, the car is on its way. One of our executives is driving it to your place of work, we hope your wife likes it" the car dealer said.

"She will, she is not the choosy type. My wife will be a very happy woman today, thanks for trusting me enough to give out the car on installment"

"It is nice doing business with you," She said and ended the call.

I quickly picked up my phone and called Kike "Hello Baby, where are you?"

"Where else will I be?" She said smiling.

"When is your class ending today?"

"I have classes till about 2:00 PM, hope everything is fine?"

"Yes, I am sending one of our staff over to deliver something to you," I said smiling.

"What is that?"

"It's a surprise," I said sounding pleased.

"Really? You will not kill me with your everyday surprise gift. What is it this time around? A dress?"

"You will have to wait to find out" I heard a knock on the door and I quickly disconnected the call.

Cynthia walked in majestically looking as stunning as ever. "How is my husband doing today?" She asked sweetly.

I looked up in shock and muttered "Fine" nobody has ever called me husband apart from Kike and the word sounded strange coming from her mouth.

"Are you still angry with me?" She said pouting prettily.

"No, What brought you here again? I am very busy, we can't spend all day talking without working" I said with a frown.

"I have come to apologize darling. I used to feel you hate me, you prefer that thing to me..."

"Let's not go there, Cynthia"

"I am sorry dear. Can you try to love me a little? I know you won't be marrying me if not for this baby, but whatever you think I still believe our coming together is destiny"

Cynthia is an extremely beautiful woman; in fact, one of the most beautiful I have ever seen but I am used to Kike. We had been through a lot together and I want to reward her kindness, I know Cynthia won't understand that.

"You are just imagining things Cynthia, I don't hate you. Just that your family is making unreasonable demands and I think you should be able to talk to them"

"I know the list for my traditional engagement is much but I can assure you that I am worth it, besides it's a one-time subscription with lifetime benefit," she said laughing.

"One time what?" I said laughing.

"Awn! You look cute when you laugh" she said and came over to sit on my lap.

"Cynthia we are in the office, if anyone bursts..."

"Nobody can enter your office without knocking..."

A call came in and I motioned to her to keep quiet. "Hello"

"Someone is here from Moyo motors Sir," the secretary said over the line.

"Let him come in," I said and pushed Cynthia out of my lap gently.

She adjusted her cloth and sat on the chair opposite mine. We heard a knock a few minutes later.

"Come in," I said and a young man in a smart outfit came in.

"I am from Moyo motors Sir, My boss sent me to deliver the car"

I didn't want Cynthia to know what was going on so I tried to stop him from saying much.

"Thanks, you can leave..."

"We believe your wife will love the car, Sir, we have added extra decorations to the inside of the car to make it look more glamorous"

"Thanks, you can leave" I mumbled.

He had barely left when Cynthia stood up from her chair and hugged me tightly. Her scream could be heard from outside the office.

"Wooooooooooow You are the best husband in the world," she said as she held on tightly.

"Cynthia..."

"I can't believe you bought me a car. Oh, baby! I love you" She said and kissed me passionately.

I was stunned as I stared at her happy face" How do I tell her the car is for Kike?"
