THE TEST 3
My father restricted me from coming into his house. And Nnenna who welcomed me dearly at first later sent me away insinuating that her husband was at stake - that I will snatch her lovely husband away from her.
He pushed me to the surface of the earth. I fell ghastly. He threw my heavy pieces of luggage at me which inflicted many injuries on my body.
The sky was clouded - the sky was gloomy.
I breathed in and out like a man welled down by some mental burden.
As a banker, I ought to have money to take care of myself but I had none - my husband requested that I should take a leave from work some months after we got married to him.
He advocated that I am going to bear children and eat his money with no stress that working as a banker was stressful.
Due to the naive mentality I had, I heed his pieces of advice.
I loved him so much - I could do anything to see him wreathed in perfect smiles.
Now, I have regretted it. I saw the ashes of my burnt CV and my certificates when I got to the house that fateful day. The day I saw my pieces of luggage under the sun.
I wanted to forget about it but it was unforgettable. What I labored for so many years was destroyed at a drop of a hat.
Cogitating on all these kept on giving me a big thump inside my belly knowing full well that I contributed to Eric's affluence.
Eric was the epitome of penury when I met him. He was black as charcoal due to the hardship he was facing.
But after he wooed me, I made plans and fortunately, the plans worked well for us but look at the way he paid me.
He paid me by putting me on a tough test to test my faithful. He paid me by throwing me out of our house like a slave.
I wished I had listened to Kate, my friend.
She admonished that Eric was a bad fellow and that he had seen him hang out with so many ladies in a brothel in our area.
Kate abetted that I should leave him and that I deserved better but I always laugh at her because I knew that my husband wouldn't cheat on me.
Olivia, my friend would always counter her, telling her that she wants to destroy someone else's home.
The other day, she did a Photoshop of my husband touching the backside of two women in a hostel not knowing that Olivia had seen that same picture on social media.
She showed it to her that the man wasn't my husband and what we saw was wrath and anger on her face.
“what happened" I queried.
“why is your face like this?”
“No! nothing”
I wished I had given her listening ears. I wished I asked her questions regarding what she said.
Now, I have been rejected; my efforts are all in vain. my pains, my sweats are now fruitless.
There, that evening. the rain started drizzling the sky was mourning for me. instantly, rain began to fall heavily bashing on me.
People were running helter-skelter to their various homes but there was me, standing at a spot not knowing where to run to.
I sat on the pillar across the road receiving the cold rain falling from heaven.
Then, I imagined that the rain carried blessings because it was coming directly from the sky- heaven, my thought.
I slept on the road that night.
The city never gets dry. there were noises from people till dawn.
I woke up quite late in the morning. I couldn't see the pieces of baggage I kept close to the wrapper I placed on the ground - the wrapper I slept on.
People thought I was a mad woman.
I was running everywhere searching for the pieces of luggage when I met Kate, she asked me what happened.
She said that she saw Olivia and Eric coming out of an eatery like couples.
“I heard they are having a proposal party this weekend”
My head immediately stood on end, a shiver raced down my spine and a lump came to my throat.
Passing was a flashy car that looked like Eric's.
Its speaker was booming.
🎶 Baby you're strong 🎶
🎶you're wise🎶
🎶you're worth beyond a thousand reasons why🎶
The car dashed off as I put my ears to the ground to listen to the next line.
“Make I use this one hold body”
I said.
To be continued.
