EPISODE 13
I
looked up at her that instance and it was as if I completely forgot everything
about Kike, I couldn’t even remember what she looked like.
“Who is Kike?” I said looking lost.
“My
great grandma” I said and broke into laughter.
“That
woman must be a witch; she must have used Yoruba Jazz on you. I always wonder
why you resisted me that hard”
Then
for some minutes my head became clear and I remembered Kike; I remembered how
she was there for me and how she stood by me during hard times.
“Kike
must never hear about this, please Cynthia” I said as I quickly knelt before
her. “I can’t explain what came over me, It is as if a force beyond my control
is pulling me towards you”
“That
is love Femi, you love me” she said looking sad suddenly. “God knows I have
never loved any human except my mom; I have always hated my dad. Other men that
came into my life have always been a means to an end for me. When I met you and
saw the way you always defended your wife I know you are what I want”
“You
promised to be there for me, you promised to take care of me! Is that a lie? Did
you take advantage of me because you saw I was weak?”
“You
know that’s not true” I said gathering my clothes. When I stood up to go to the
bathroom I suddenly become dizzy, I held my head with my two hands and
everything suddenly became clear. I looked at Cynthia half-naked on the chair
and for the first time, I became afraid.
“What
happened?” I said looking at Cynthia and she suddenly burst into tears.
I
quickly rush into the bathroom for a quick shower, when I came back to the
sitting room she was still crying. I entered the room and dressed up
immediately, when I checked the time it was a few minutes after 5 in the morning.
I entered
the sitting room after dressing up and found her in the same spot starring into
space. I picked up the briefcase on the table and opened it, the money was
there intact.
“What
about the money, you promised me? Did you forget that too?” she said sadly.
“This
money belongs to my wife, why should I give it to you?”
“You
said I can have the money, how do I bury my dead mother?”
I
brought out one bundle from the briefcase” here, you can have this. There is
fifty thousand naira here, use it to bury your mother”
“Fifty
thousand out of five hundred thousand naira?” she asked sadly.
“If
I give you the money what am I supposed to tell my wife? She is expecting the
money”
“Femi
you can’t do this” she said as she stood up to hug me.
“Don’t
come near me Cynthia, please” I said pleadingly.
“I
want two hundred and fifty thousand naira, or else I will tell the whole world how you
used me. God knows I don’t really want to do this but I have no option”
I
imagined how Kike will feel when she got to know about this, she will be very
disappointed in me. I had promised her not to have anything to do with Cynthia
and I have failed her.
I
placed all the money in the briefcase on the table and only picked two bundles.
I returned the two bundles to the briefcase and walk towards the door.
“I
am going home to my wife, lock the door when you are done here and give the key
to the gate man”
“You
are leaving me here? How do you expect me to find my way to the office?”
“Find
a way! Please, let this be the last time you will come near me, I am going to
forget whatever happened here ever happened” I said and kept walking.
“We
are not done Femi; there are some things you can never forget. You will be back”
I heard her say as I walked out of the door.
